Schipol, Incheon and Avinor airports have announced the launch of their BOOST programme, a movement to accelerate innovations in baggage handling technology.
Launching at this year’s Future Travel Experience conference in Dublin, the international initiative will see the three airports collaborating on a range of new technologies and improvements within the field of robots and automation related to baggage handling.
Dennis van Kleef, Programme Lead Baggage, said:Our ultimate goal is to lighten the physical workload and improve working conditions for baggage employees. Information and insights will regularly be shared with the other key partners, meaning everyone can benefit from the various pilots without having to carry them out independently.
As part of the programme, each airport will conduct independent investigations into a specific field of new technology. Schipol will be continuing its work on the development of a baggage handling COBOT unit, as well as the upcoming launch of its robotic loading solution, Eltonomous.
Incheon has turned its hands towards an automated handling concept for unusually sized baggage, whilst Avinor is currently conducting tests for a new digital planning system aiming to reduce manual labour, speed up baggage handling processes and improve overall efficiency.
